Wendling & Ashton
Red Warehouse Party

We opened for The Alarm and it was a rockin' affair. We'll have some photos posted soon! Matt and Patrick were working the big stage with their usual aplomb and vigor (I know how to use a thesaurus). Wendling commanded the stage with a presence he usually reserves for klezmer night at the VFW. And Marty was back from tour with TMBG so he was kind enough to join us on drums, bringing his usual percussive flair and backstage wit and wisdom.

It was great to hang with Mike Peters and chat about some of the cool things happening for The Alarm-namely a movie being developed by the producer of Shrek! Their website has more info on that. I told Mike I want to audition to be one of the band members!!!
Prior to my audition, we're going to book some acoustic shows in Manhattan so keep checking the website for updated info. ---Tom A.

Also, we'll be performing an acoustic/electric set on December 3rd at our good friend Mark McNulty's bar Asylum in Manhattan. The vibe of the place has undergone many changes recently but most importantly, there are half-price drinks until 10pm dammit!!!

Thanks to everyone who came to our BMI show at Arlene's Grocery. Since then Early Edison has been opting for a more sedate summer as Tom Ashton is writing some new material and working on some theatrical stuff that will incorporate Early Edison in some capacity.

Guitarist Matt Hogan has been touring with singer-songwriter Sarah Hudson (S-Curve/EMI) so you might've recently seen him on the WB11 Morning Show strutting his stuff at the ungodly hour of 8:47am.

At our last few gigs we were fortunate to be joined onstage by drummer Marty Beller who is currently touring with They Might Be Giants. We met Marty through our producer Pat Dillett (David Byrne, Mary J. Blige, TMBG) when we recorded a couple tunes with him. Those songs include "Say a Better Prayer" and "I'll Understand".
We tracked these bad boys at Kampo Studios with Pat Dillett and Greg Thompson. The aforementioned Mssr. Beller played drums and extra guitar/keyboards were provided by the similarly spectacular Jon Spurney. Both songs were mastered by UE Nastasi at Sterling Sound.

The details on how we stumbled into Mr. Roger's Neighborhood ::
I flew out to LA last year for the premiere of Dickie Roberts and spent some quality time at the post-premiere party with Emmanuel Lewis, Barry Williams, and Dax Shephard from MTV's Punk'd. The highlight of the trip had to be Leif Garrett rollerskating at the party while winking and giving the thumbs-up to all the ladies in the house. Leif, you teach us all a little something about life.

Our manager Ed Brooks flew out to LA as well and we had a few meetings with some music supervisors (they're the ones that pick the music for film and TV) and we specifically met with a few people who've gotten our music into the films. One of the meetings yielded what we like to call the Mystery Song. Without revealing any real identities we were asked to record a familiar children's song for a movie! The catch ˆ we had to do it in the next 48 hours! I immediately flew back to New York and we recorded the song at Kampo Studios with Pat Dillett producing, Greg Thompson engineering, Tom Wendling bass playing and shredding the guitar solo, Steve Selezniov of the Pop Mafia drumming, and Thomas Bartlett tinkling the ivories. Although it didn't make it into the final cut we now have an extra mp3 on our website that we did't pay a cent to make!!!!

Dickie Roberts, Former Child Star ::
Tom Ashton was asked to write a theme song for the fake TV show Dickie Roberts starred in back in the 70s called "The Glimmer Gang." The end result was performed by EE along with guest vocalists Dina Kay and Claysey Everett. A very special thanks to producer Tom McNulty of Happy Madison for championing our cause!!!

EE Studio news ::
We finished two songs with the big, bad Grammy-winning producer PAT DILLETT. We recorded Lies Like You and a new version of White Socks at Kampo Studios in Manhattan and we're very happy to report that Pat did NOT pull a gun on us during the sessions! (He still refuses to appear in public with Shania Twain).

Special thanks to guitarist Dan Miller (They Might Be Giants' very own Band of Dan's) for his guest appearance on Lies Like You and thank you to recovering jai-lai addict Steve O'Donnell for his guest vocals on White Socks.

XM Radio Taps Early Edison For Rotation ::
Early Edison is currently in rotation on the revolutionary satellite-broadcast XM Radio. Program Director Pat DiNizio (Smithereens) has chosen EE to be featured on the "Unsigned" program on Channel 52.

Industry Showcase ::
Last year we played a private industry showcase in Manhattan that was hosted by Mel Brooks. You might be familiar with him ... he's won an Oscar, an Emmy, a Grammy, a Tony, but now his career has hit full-stride as an Early Edison groupie.
